Lhasa
Lhasa is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China and is by far the most interesting city I have ever been to.
I came during Saga Dawa, the “month of merits” for Tibetan Buddhists.
And never have I ever seen a more devout group of people.
During this month, Tibetans focus on gaining merit towards enlightenment.
By prostrating in front of holy sites.
Spin prayer wheels.
As they walk laps around Barkhor Circle.
The circuit is marked by these totem poles with prayer flags at their base.
This little guy is still getting the hang of this though.
I have the middle seat on a 17-hour train to Changsha, Hunan, my ancestral province.
